A fee of $28 will be charged to the patient (or to parent /guardian of patient under 18 years of age):
1). If the patient does not show up for appointment or does not contact us to cancel or change the date/time of the appointment at least 24 hours in advance.
2). If the doctor instructs a contact lens patient to have a follow up assessment (usually 1-2 weeks out), but rather, patient returns for follow up beyond 60 days. If the delay is so extensive, a new and complete exam will then have to be performed again and full exam charges would be required.
No fee will be charged when the patient contacts us at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled appointment.
Why charge me a fee for not informing the office that I cannot be there for my appointment?
Ophthalmologists, pediatricians, primary care physicians, orthodontists, and other health care professionals set policies to help patients comply so the doctors can effectively serve their communities. You may be very aware of such similar policies at your other doctors' offices. The office of Dr. Steve Wexler is no different. When a patient doesn't show for an appointment without giving the office timely notice or any notice at all, it prevents other patients who need the doctor's care from being accepted at that time. In addition, time and effort is applied by the staff to arrange each patient appointment and perform the many steps it takes to prepare the patient for the appointment. These days, eye health and vision problems are on the rise, and therefore the necessity for efficient and timely services is critical to accommodate the needs of our patients.
Patient responsibilities and cooperation contribute a critical and essential role in helping the office and doctor deliver efficient and effective care to all patients. With excellent communication between the patients and office, the entire care system benefits.
